Popplet (2nd-12th)http://tinyurl.com/amdr9hr-Popplet
This site/app can be found either at the app link above or popplet.com. Its simple design makes it easy to use for all school age students. Students can make a variety of web drafts to help organize the structure of their writing and place ideas in an organized fashion. Students link and order their ideas on a large page. Then students can embed the Popplet into Evernote or GoogleDrive documents or save to the Popplet board. One con of this site is that the free version of Popplet only allows a user to save 5 popplets at one time. However, you can pay the yearly or monthly fee and have unlimited save access. |
iThoughts(4th-12th)http://tinyurl.com/ithoughts-iThoughts
iThoughts is another mind mapping program. This app allows students to not only map ideas using text bubbles but include graphics and images to help construct ideas. Students can also link ideas to websites, videos, and audio downloads. This allows students with limited or "weak" writing abilities to organize and communicate ideas on "paper." Students are able to add detail and depth to their story all in one place and format. iThoughts also has the feature to make timelines and other graphic organizers. |
Google Drive (3rd-12th)This solution can also be used in any text document sharing program.
Using Google Drive for supporting students with disabilities is a solution that uses collaborative learning for student growth and support. After planning their story and pasting it into a document, students will begin to write their first draft. They will then share this with their peer(s) and teacher. Peers and teachers can then comment and edit the shared piece. They can give advice, show how they might fix the issue, or share/link the paragraph to someone else who might be able to help. They can also flag an area as a concern. When this is done the writer is alert to the problem and can be given a recommendation how to solve. Once fixed, the writer can then alert others that they have solved the problem or respond back with more questions. Another nice feature of this site is a "commenter" can also highlight a given passage and link that to a site that could be resourceful to the student or to an example or more ideas. Students can also insert a teacher provided outline or story to help practice different skills without having to produce new, individual ideas. |
