RAZ-Kids can be one solution to supporting students who struggle with reading comprehension. Raz-kids comes with an assortment of books Kindergarten through fifth grade reading levels (fiction and information text.) The read a-long feature helps students who struggle with accuracy and fluency by hearing the story read to them with highlighting the words while the story is read. After reading the story, students are asked comprehension questions in areas of compare/contrast, problem/solution/, inferencing, etc. As the student answers questions, the program will tell them why the answer was right or wrong and either progress them to the next story or have them reread the story telling them to focus on a specific type of comprehension skills. As a teacher, you will receive reports on what progress each student is missing. The report will inform you of speed of reading, accuracy of comprehension, and what areas of the comprehension are the student's strengths and weaknesses. |

iBooks2 can be used as a tool for students who struggle with note taking, reading higher level text books, and organizing comprehension. The below video will show you how each of these features work in iBooks 2: As you can see iBooks2 can bring many solutions to help support students with comprehension difficulties. With highlighting capabilities, students can mark what they feel is important and then share these with a teacher and peer to check for unnecessary or missed information. Highlighted material can then be taken and turned into detailed, organized notes or study cards. Students who struggle with comprehension of text can then study using the cards provided.
iBooks2 also has the basic accessibility options that were included in the original program. iBooks2 can be set to read the text to the student and has the ability for students to "tap" on a word and use the dictionary, thesaurus, or search engine to learn more about the highlighted vocabulary. |

This site provides materials that can be used online or printed Graphic Organizers are a classic way to help students with comprehension struggles. Read-Write-Think provides numerous online organizers that use the interactive called Story Map. Graphic organizers can be searched by kind of text or grade level. Once selected, you will find a detailed lesson, standards, and resources. By selecting resources, you can open any of the provided documents and either print or send to students to use online. Students can write on the organizers by converting to Word or GoogleDrive or using a digital writing program such as Skitch or Evernote. By using different graphic organizers students can practice using different comprehension strategies while they read independently or in a small group. |
