RAZkids (K-5th)www.raz-kids.com
Raz-kids has a feature in its program where students can be assigned a read aloud running record. The student will need access to a computer and a microphone. The student will be guided through recording their reading of a teacher assigned text. After the student reads the story they will be given the opportunity to retell the story verbally and answer a few questions. The student will then send the recording to the teacher following the quick and simple directions. Students are also given reward points for successfully finishing the recording, giving them incentive to try hard. Teachers can then listen and evaluate the recording and share notes and records with parents and students. Below you will find an example of how this program works: Raz-kids also has many fluency practice passages that can be assigned to a student online. These are similar to the ones provided with Reading a-z curriculum.

Evernote (All grades, 2+ independent)This video shows students using Evernote on an iPad to practice and evaluate their own fluency. (Evernote can also be used on a computer or Android.) Students take a picture of the page their are reading then select the recording option in the top right corner. They then record themselves reading the photographed page. Students will then listen back to their recording and listen and evaluate their fluency. The students can then type notes next to the recording icon about what they feel was a strength and a goal of the selected reading. After a period of time the student can then return to that page and re-read the passage either trying to read faster, more smoothly, or practicing their chosen goal/strategy. These recording can also be used in a small group or individual conference discussion focused on reading fluency.
